Summary

Detail
The Rector has responsibility for the strategic leadership and management of the whole school and is accountable to the Board of Governors for the development and delivery of School Strategic Plan and all entailed in the delivery of a first-class all-round educational experience for the young people and families of The High School of Glasgow and all related business and resource requirements.
Some of the key responsibilities of the Rector include:
• Providing, in conjunction with the Board of Governors, the vision and ongoing strategic development of the School and The High School of Glasgow community, as well as directing and overseeing strategic planning and delivery.
• Upholding and promote the ethos, aims and values of The High School of Glasgow amongst all stakeholders, and ensuring the effective delivery of teaching and learning.
• Ensuring a well-disciplined and positive learning environment is maintained, encouraging good behaviour, positive relationships and a culture of mutual respect.
• Providing oversight of the School’s curriculum and curricular development, considering the School’s Strategic Plan and Annual School Improvement Plans, as well as taking account of relevant developments in wider society, the economy and the education and skills agenda;
• Developing and nurturing collaborative partnerships with other schools, educational organisations, community groups and business entities to enhance educational opportunities and resources for pupils.
• Initiating and leading joint projects, programmes and initiatives that benefit the school community, foster professional development and support the School’s strategic goals, as well as actively seeking opportunities for mutual support and shared learning to enrich the educational experience and strengthen community ties.
• Ensuring the widest possible access to a High School of Glasgow education and securing a sustainable bursary fund in conjunction with The High School of Glasgow Educational Trust and the Board of Governors for the future.
• In liaison with the Chief Operating Officer, being responsible for finance, budgeting, budget development/delivery and business planning, including prudent and forward-looking financial, business oversight to provide effective operational management and deployment of the School’s resources in a cost-effective manner.
• Ensuring effective and efficient communication with parents, former pupils, prospective parents and the wider High School of Glasgow community, building and maintaining strong relationships with key stakeholders, including parents, the local community and the media to enhance the School’s reputation and visibility.

Personal Specification
• Strong academic and teaching credentials, with a passion for pastoral care and developing the all-round capacities and aptitudes of young people.
• A proven record of successful and impactful leadership as a Head, Deputy or within a School Senior Leadership Team.
• Commitment, interest and care for young people, their development, opportunities and journey through a 3-18 year school.
• Passionate about drawing out the professional potential of fellow colleagues and committed to a collegiate ethos for positive outcomes.
• Able to articulate a compelling educational vision and purpose, demonstrating the personal skills to motivate and inspire others.
• Drive, energy and commitment with effective communication skills, emotional intelligence, integrity, a calm and informed decision-making capacity and an ability for diplomacy and adaptability.
• A visible leader across the School community who leads by example.

The role will receive a generous remuneration package in line with the skills and experience of the successful applicant.
