Oxford Sixth Form College are looking to recruit a Medical Matron on a full-time, permanent contract to start as soon as possible.
The successful candidate will have previous experience working with young people and in the education sector. We are looking for someone with a commitment to the care and welfare of young people, strong organizational skills and good communication skills.
This is a full time role working Monday - Friday. Please refer to the job description below.
Job Title: Matron
Reports to: Director of Student Services
Liaises with: Heads of Houses, Houseparents, Safeguarding team and Senior Tutors
Job Purpose
The main purpose of this post is to be an adult presence in the Boarding Houses and to be responsible for the safeguarding, welfare and security of students by assisting the Houseparents in the supervision of the health and welfare of the students.
Above all, there is an expectation of a parent figure who is generous with their time and responsive to the needs of the students.
Main duties
The list below is intended to give an indicative outline of your main duties and responsibilities. It should not be read as an exhaustive statement.
The physical care and security of the students both day and boarding students
Providing an adult presence in the boarding houses during agreed hours and cover emergencies
Preparedness to give emotional support to both day and boarding students
Liaison with Heads of House and Houseparents on matters to do with the Boarding House
Assistance in the smooth running of the Boarding House
Liaison with the GP surgery, dentist surgeries and the hospital in relation to students in your care
To be an active member of the safeguarding team
To promote health education throughout the college community and to support the Senior Tutors to deliver PSHE lessons as required
Ensure the provision of the access to a range of publicity materials on issues relating to student health
Keep up-to-date with current health promotion initiatives
Be aware and have involvement of health and safety issues within the school affecting staff, students or the environment
Deal with and all sickness and accidents within working hours in line with policy and procedures
Assess student fitness to attend College classes
Accompany unwell students to the GP surgery or hospital as required
Key Duties
To meet regularly with the Director of Student Services, Senior Tutors, Heads of House and Houseparents
To help ensure adherence to the National Minimum Standards (NMS) for Boarding
Keep meticulous records of all student accidents, incidents and engagement with students
Maintain the student medical records in line with NMS requirements
Organise and run drop-in clinics (within agreed level of competence)
Provide first aid and emergency care and treatment as necessary, including maintaining stocks of all College first aid kits
Provide a confidential health advice service as appropriate
Operate procedures for the control of infectious diseases
Contribute to the College development policy as it applies to the health and well-being of students.
Follow procedures for the safe disposal of clinical waste.
Be aware of recommended safe storage, usage and disposal of medical supplies and drugs and maintain within guidelines
Maintain treatment room stock, in a safe, hygienic and tidy manner
Organise visits to the doctor’s surgery, including advising students to attend and referring to the GP surgery as appropriate
Arrange for boarding students to attend any medical, dental or other health appointments as necessary
To be the primary care giver and to administer medication at regular and irregular times
Keep electronic and manual records of all medication administered
Arrange for Paracetamol training when appropriate
To check that students going on trips are supplied with the correct medication (Boarding) and risk assessment when required
Ensure that all students who require a medical Risk Assessment have one in place and that it is reviewed with the student at appropriate intervals
Keep up to date with current legislation that will inform the relevant policies. Additional Duties
Actively promote and market the College and present a positive image of the College and its activities both within and outside the College environment.
To participate in student recruitment activities, such as agent familiarisation trips, prospective student/parent visits.
To assist with marketing materials, such as student case students, testimonials and programme briefs
To attend relevant professional development courses and external meetings as representative of the College
To carry out any duties at all times in accordance with the College’s policies including Health and Safety, Child Protection and Safeguarding Policies
Incorporate into the role the philosophy of the values and vision stated by the Nord Anglia Education Group
To undertake any other responsibilities commensurate with the grade of the post, which the Principal or their Senior Management representative may from time to time require*We reserve the right to introduce changes in line with technological developments which may impact upon the job duties or methods of working

The successful applicants will be in regulated activity with children and required to undertake an Enhanced DBS check and barred list check.
