We are looking for an experienced HR Manager to join our team. Our Human Resources department supports the college to deliver its strategy through the recruitment and onboarding, reward and recognition, and retention and development of our staff.

PART I: ABOUT THE ROLE
With a newly appointed Director, the HR team is entering an exciting phase of its modernisation to provide a comprehensive suite of HR expertise which supports the College with its vision. This role will play an essential role in helping the team to achieve its aims.
The existing team consists of:
HR Director, HR Operations Manager, HR Advisor, HR Assistant and HR Administrator.
The HR Manager will assist with driving the HR agenda for the academic teams to build organisational and people capability. This role will support the development of the local people strategy and deploy appropriate processes and solutions to include workforce planning, performance management, culture, and values, change management and restructuring. You will develop and in-depth knowledge of your area, and partner with key stakeholders to support the delivery of strategic priorities.
PART II: RESPONSIBLITIES OF HR MANAGER
Key Responsibilities
- Act as a central point of contract for academic staff to provide advice and guidance on a range of HR issues.
- Advise and deliver on complex employee relations cases.
- Drive recruitment activity for the academic teams, advising on strategy, advertising, negotiating with agency/search, developing LinkedIn presence, designing, and delivering recruitment days. Working with HRAs to deliver seamless administration and onboarding for hires for the academic team.
- Implement a comprehensive approach to performance reviews for teaching and teaching support. Coaching and supporting line managers with key messages.
- Deliver the HR induction programme for academic staff.
- Support the HR Director with threshold progression for teachers.
- Proactively identify improvements and work with the team to deliver these.
- Support the HR Director with Compensation and Remuneration review for academic staff.
- Analysis of KPI reporting metrics for academic staff, relating to sickness absence, employee engagement etc.
- Coach and develop managers and colleagues on a range of people related matters.
- Develop training materials and deliver a programme of training for line managers and Heads of department.
- Support HRD with key projects and initiatives as required.
- Create and deliver HR programmes to embed new initiatives. Providing the appropriate risk assurance to stakeholders.
- Attend regular meetings with the academic team, to include Second Master, Deputy Head Pastoral, Director and Deputy Director of Studies and Senior Housemaster.
- Ad hoc duties as required.
Reporting Lines
- Reports directly to the HR Director.
PART III: PERSON SPECIFICATION AND KEY QUALITIES
Experience and Skills
- Educated to degree level of equivalent.
- CIPD membership and/or equivalent relevant professional experience.
- Knowledge and experience of successfully managing stakeholders in a variety of HR roles.
- Proven critical thinking skills with the ability to take initiative and think creatively to resolve challenges.
- Ability to prioritise work effectively.
- Comfortable working independently.
- Skilled presenter, comfortable running local training, induction etc.
- Experience of developing local people focussed interventions that support the HR strategy.
- First class organisational and administrative skills.
- Sound numerical reasoning, ability to make complex remuneration calculations.
- Experience of managing/coaching team members for high performance.
- Good working knowledge of UK employment law.
- Strong analytical skills and sound judgement.
- Flexible approach to duties undertaken.
- Working knowledge of HR information systems, databases, and reporting tools. Experience of i-Trent desirable but not essential.
- Excellent IT skills and a willingness to explore and learn about new platforms.
- Diligence and accuracy.
Personal Attributes
- Skilled and efficient operator.
- Experience of unions would be helpful, but it is not essential, as is experience of working in environments where there are a range of contracts in operations.
- Effective communication skills, the ability to engage with a wide range of employees effectively.
- Calm and focussed under pressure.
- Innovative and open to fresh ideas.
- Positive can-do attitude, proactive.
- A commitment to the safety and welfare of children is essential, as well as equality of opportunity.
PART IV: BENEFITS, TERMS AND CONDITIONS AND APPLICATION
Start date
The College is looking to make an appointment to start as soon as possible.
Hours of Work
This is a full-time role, 37.5 hours per week, and such other hours as are reasonably necessary to meet the needs of the College and the demands of the role.
Salary
Competitive salary, commensurate with qualifications and experience. Salary is paid monthly, in arrears, to a nominated back account in 12 equal payments.
