We are currently seeking to fill the position of Graduate Teacher of Geography at City of London School.
An outstanding Graduate Teacher of Geography is required for September 2026. The School has a long-standing record of high academic achievement (93.4% of A-level entries gained A* to B grades in 2025, 63% Grade 9 at GCSE, 86% 9/8 and 96% 9-7 GCSE in 2025). There is also much happening in terms of co-curricular activities, and all staff are expected to be fully involved in School life.
This post would also be suitable for a graduate looking to explore teaching as a profession; we can offer a level of teaching autonomy within a supportive environment. We can offer a one year fixed-term contract where you can share your passion for the subject with bright pupils, have regular meetings with a mentor, be involved with the co-curricular life of the school and you can assess whether a career in teaching is the right path for you; a year at CLS would be an excellent springboard to apply for further teaching opportunities.
Geography is popular and successful at CLS; we teach the OCR B specification at GCSE and OCR A-Level course. Around 50 - 60 pupils take GCSE Geography and between 10-20 take the subject for A-Level, with a number each year going on to study the subject and other associated courses at university. There is a rich supra-curricular programme including competitions and guest speakers. We conduct local fieldwork at KS3 and optional international trips for KS4 and KS5 which run on alternating years in addition to their compulsory fieldwork.
We aspire to attract a staff that matches the social and cultural diversity of the CLS community. We welcome applications from anyone with the relevant skills and abilities, and particularly from those who may not previously have thought of applying to a school such as ours. We use CV Minder to anonymise applications.
CLS was named by the Sunday Times as London Independent Secondary School of the Year 2020, and occupies fine, modern buildings near St. Pauls Cathedral overlooking the Thames, opposite the Tate Modern. There are impressive off-site sports facilities in southeast London.
City of London School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and applicants must be willing to undergo child protection screening appropriate to the post, including checks with past employers and the Disclosure and Barring Service.
