The Deputy Head (Co-Curricular and Operations) is a key senior leadership post, with overall responsibility for the strategic oversight, development and nurturing of a world-class, broad, enriching and high-achieving co-curricular programme.
At Francis Holland, the co-curricular programme is at the heart of our school. We are committed to educating the whole girl through a vibrant culture of sport, the arts, debating, enterprise, volunteering, pupil leadership and educational trips. Our extensive co-curricular offer plays a central role in building confidence, leadership and real-world skills. Through participation, girls discover new passions and talents and unearth career aspirations previously unexplored. This rich life beyond academics is vital for their wellbeing and mental health: it challenges stereotypes, builds resilience and equips them for the future beyond FHS.
The Deputy Head (Co-Curricular and Operations) is a key senior leadership post, reporting directly to the Head, with overall responsibility for the strategic oversight, development and nurturing of a world-class, broad, enriching and high-achieving co-curricular programme. This role demands a proven track record of visionary leadership, deep commitment to extra-curricular life and a clear understanding of how co-curricular activities drive engagement, personal growth and school-wide excellence.
Beyond co-curriculum leadership, the Deputy Head (Co-Curricular and Operations) sets the tone for the smooth running of day-to-day school operations by taking full ownership of the school calendar and event planning. The successful candidate will combine meticulous attention to detail and forensic planning skills—anticipating and troubleshooting scheduling conflicts—with the ability to think strategically over the medium to long term. Exceptional organisational dexterity, flexibility, empathy and determination are essential, as is a willingness to be a visible, approachable presence throughout the school community.
Given the nature of this role we would be interested in hearing from candidates with both a teaching and non-teaching background. We recognise that celebrating the full diversity of staff and students has a positive impact on all and invite applications from candidates from a broad range of backgrounds. To enable us to make any reasonable adjustments, please let us know when you submit your application whether you have any special requirements.
