The role: The Design Assistant works in the Design, Technology and Engineering (DTE) department and is responsible for providing a safe and inspiring learning environment for the pupils in our classrooms and workshops. In the mornings you will prepare materials, maintain equipment and lay out resources for lessons, and be on hand to assist pupils and teachers. In the afternoons you will help in our extra-curricular clubs; advising and giving practical guidance as the boys work on their projects. The skills: This may be an excellent opportunity for a recent graduate or someone with a background in this specialism and an enjoyment of the subject. You will have a good general education and CAD skills would be an advantage. Utilising your demonstrable experience of undertaking a range of design-related tasks and passion for using technology to create objects using a variety of mediums, you will motivate and inspire pupils to develop their creative skills. You will pride yourself on upholding the highest standards of best practice and health and safety.

The environment: Harrow School is situated within a beautiful site in Harrow on the Hill, northwest London, and is one of the best-known schools in the world, with around 840 boys studying at Harrow. The Design, Technology and Engineering Department is housed in a purpose-built, open-plan building with individual rooms for electronics and graphics, a specialist Sixth Form design room and an exhibition area, along with a well-equipped workshop. All boys study the subject in their first year, 74 boys have continued it to GCSE and around 24 boys are taking A level, and the results they achieve under the tutelage of the teachers and technicians produces outstanding results. There are four full-time members of the department and one part-time technician. The workshop is open every afternoon during the term for boys to pursue hobbies and interests
