Detail

We are delighted to announce an exciting opportunity for a knowledgeable, innovative and inspirational Head of AI Education.

This new, pupil-facing role will lead the development and delivery of an ambitious programme of Artificial Intelligence education across the school. The successful candidate will equip pupils with the skills, knowledge, judgement and adaptability needed to thrive in an AI-enabled future.

This exceptional opportunity would suit either an experienced educator with advanced expertise in AI, or a technology professional with outstanding communication and training skills who is excited by the prospect of working with young people.

The role will work closely with, and report into, the Deputy Head Academic, and will contribute to Hurst's wider vision of becoming a leading centre of excellence for AI education. Additional responsibilities in AI strategy and classroom or operational AI innovation will be shaped around the capabilities of the successful candidate; but the clear majority of the role will be the delivery of an inspirational and up-to-date AI education to Hurst's engaged, curious pupils, in person.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop and deliver a programme of AI education for Sixth Form students, with a focus on practical application, real-world problem-solving, critical thinking and ethical use
  • Develop and deliver age-appropriate AI education programmes for pupils in Key Stages 2, 3 and 4
  • Support the Deputy Head Academic in the development and implementation of the school's AI for Teaching and Learning strategy
  • Assist the Senior Management Team in identifying opportunities for AI to enhance operational effectiveness across the school
  • Provide guidance, training and support for teaching staff in the effective and ethical use of AI, and facilitate the sharing of best practice across departments

About You

The successful candidate will be curious, adaptable and intellectually ambitious, with:

  • Demonstrable experience of applying Artificial Intelligence to improve educational, professional or commercial outcomes
  • A strong understanding of current AI models, tools, agents and workflows, with the ability to evaluate their strengths, limitations and appropriate use cases. Experience of developing AI agents, automations or AI-enabled workflows as advantage.
  • Outstanding communication and presentation skills, with the ability to engage audiences ranging from individual pupils to large groups
  • The ability to design and deliver engaging educational experiences for learners of different ages and abilities

Desirable, but not essential:

Qualified Teacher Status and substantial classroom experience, or alternatively experience of staff training, professional development or facilitation.

Experience of curriculum design or educational programme leadership

Working at Hurst

Hurst is one of Britain's leading independent schools, offering a vibrant and supportive environment for both pupils and staff. With almost 1,300 pupils across our Senior and Prep Schools, we combine academic ambition with a strong sense of community and a rich co-curricular programme.

Hurst is a place of genuine momentum. From the classroom to the sports field, and the theatre to the boarding house, life here is rich, varied, and relentlessly rewarding.

Ours is a community that sets its sights on excellence — not as a destination, but as a daily habit. The people who thrive here are those who bring the same ambition, resilience, and commitment that we ask of our pupils.

We don't just teach; we coach, mentor, direct, lead, and inspire, often all in the same day! The role you play here extends far beyond your core responsibilities, and that's precisely what makes it so fulfilling. If you're someone who is energised by variety, motivated by challenge, and genuinely excited by the opportunity to shape young people both inside and outside the classroom then you'll feel right at home.

You'll enjoy working in a stunning rural setting while remaining well-connected. We're just 20 minutes from the city and beaches of Brighton & Hove, and London is under an hour away by train.

This isn't just a job. It's a commitment to something bigger. For the right person, there is nowhere more exciting to be.

Safeguarding and Equal Opportunities

Hurst is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people, and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. Any offer of employment will be subject to an enhanced DBS disclosure, satisfactory references and adverse media check.

The College understands that a robust, fair and transparent recruitment and selection policy plays a central role in achieving this aim. Our full equal opportunities policy is available in the Policy Documents section of our website.
