The Role
We are seeking to appoint an inspiring and high-achieving teacher to join a highly successful Computer Science Department, teaching at KS3, GCSE, and A-Level. The successful candidate will have a genuine enthusiasm for Computer Science and be well placed to generate and sustain a high degree of motivation and achievement in all pupils.
This role offers the opportunity to contribute to a forward-thinking department that recognises both the enjoyment and the significance of Computer Science within the modern curriculum. In an increasingly technology-driven society, you will equip pupils with essential knowledge and skills, fostering computational and critical thinking, creativity, and collaboration and the confidence to create, analyse and adapt within an ever-evolving technological landscape.
This role is offered on a full-time basis, but job shares will be considered.
The School
The King’s School is one of the dozen oldest schools in the country and has a proud heritage dating back to at least 1087, with a re-foundation in 1541. King’s is the Cathedral School in the city of Gloucester, whilst the surrounding county is home to many excellent grammar and state schools, as well as other independent schools. King’s is held in high regard amidst this competitive area; our academic, co-curricular and pastoral attainment is second to none. Local media brand SoGlos has awarded King’s the title of ‘Independent School of the Year’ or ‘Highly Commended’ in every one of the last five years – a feat unmatched by any other local independent school – most recently winning the title in May 2025. Despite the multiple national-scale challenges of recent years, King’s has seen its pupil roll growing steadily and parental satisfaction scoring very highly indeed. With careful investment in the campus and facilities, as well as a continuous focus on improving teaching and learning and developing our outstanding pastoral care, King’s is now seen as a dynamic, forward-thinking and impressive place to study and to work.
The Department
The Computer Science Department is an energetic, supportive and innovative department. The advertised role will support the Head of Department, who has led significant growth and development in recent years. The post-holder will find their colleagues interested, supportive and positive about the role and importance of Computer Science within the curriculum. Computer Science teaching takes place in purpose-built IT suites and the recently re-developed Dulverton Sixth Form Centre. The curriculum includes a range of units, from AI and Cyber Security to Computational Thinking and Programming, plus an extensive program of extra-curricular activities, which the successful candidate will have the opportunity to develop further.
