An opportunity for an School Staff Instructor to support the Combined Cadet Force at Mount Kelly.
The Combined Cadet Force at Mount Kelly has a long tradition and is one of the oldest in the country. The CCF is affiliated to The Royal Navy, with the Royal Navy providing support in training and administration. Each CCF is a partnership between a school and the Ministry of Defence and has as its aim “the development of personal responsibility, leadership and self-discipline”.
Pupils undertake a broad range of challenging, exciting, adventurous and educational activities, as well as important ceremonial duties on occasions such as Remembrance Sunday and Biennial Inspections. The Mount Kelly CCF is optional for pupils in Years 10-13 and is provides a training framework in which pupils can develop a range of physical abilities, including endurance and co-ordination.
The SSI works closely with the Contingent Commander to support cadets at Mount Kelly. The role is responsible for all aspects of administration, including the MOD Cadet Management Information System (CMIS) on Westminster and the safe training of Cadet Force Adult Volunteers (CFAVs) and cadets. The SSI must hold the relevant cadet qualifications and it would be helpful to hold the appropriate Exercise Conducting Officer qualifications. This is a part-time position, working 11.75 hours per week (1.5 days). The regular schedule includes a full day on Fridays from 9:00 am to 5:45 pm and half a day (4 hours). The role is term-time only, covering 34 weeks per year (including INSET days). Additionally, there are occasional weekend commitments, such as Remembrance Weekend, and attendance at the annual camps for up to seven additional days per academic year.
The working days will be agreed with the Contingent Commander at the start of each academic year. 51 days Voluntary Allowance from the MOD is applicable.
Candidates should have a genuine passion for working with young people alongside previous experience in a military background in regular, reserve or cadet forces.
