Radley College - Security Porter

Summary

Radley College is an independent boarding school of 770 boys situated five miles south of Oxford on a stunningly beautiful rural campus close to Radley village. We have an exciting opportunity for a security porter to join the night team.

Detail

The Security Porter plays a vital role in maintaining a safe, secure, and welcoming environment for pupils, staff, visitors, and contractors within the College community. As the first point of contact for many entering the site, the Security Porter represents the College’s values at all times through a professional appearance, courteous conduct, and a calm, authoritative presence.

We are looking for a candidate that will demonstrate strong customer service and communication skills and the ability to be resilient and remain calm under pressure. The successful candidate will provide a visible, reassuring presence across the campus, ensuring that the College’s facilities and grounds are protected, and that all safeguarding and security procedures are effectively followed.

Hours of work

  • There are three shift patterns available: 7 pm to 3 am, 9 pm to 5 am and 11 pm to 7 am.
  • The period between 9 pm and 5 am will be covered by two security porters, the remaining time will be lone working.
  • We envisage a six day shift, which including holiday cover for other members of the team

This makes a total of 197 working days per annum (excluding own holiday).

The ideal candidate will be capable of working within a security-related environment while maintaining discretion and respect for the privacy of College members. They will be computer literate, confident in the use of Microsoft Word and Excel for database management, correspondence, and record keeping. A flexible and adaptable approach to work is essential, as is the ability to operate effectively with minimal supervision.

The role requires a good standard of English and Mathematics, along with strong communication and organisational skills.

The candidate must hold both a full driving licence and a valid SIA licence.

Experience in dealing with welfare or pastoral issues would be advantageous, demonstrating the ability to handle sensitive matters with empathy and sound judgement.
