St Catherine's School - Teacher of Maths

Summary

We seek to appoint from September 2026 a Teacher of Maths to join St Catherine's School. This is a full time position, but there is the possibility that we will also consider someone part time as well.

Detail

We are seeking an enthusiastic, committed, and self‑motivated Teacher of Maths to join our large and thriving Mathematics Department from September 2026. This is a full‑time position; however, applications from candidates seeking part‑time hours will also be considered.

The successful candidate will be a dynamic Maths practitioner with the ability to teach confidently up to A Level. He or she will be flexible, innovative, friendly, and passionate about their subject, with a genuine desire to inspire pupils and contribute positively to a highly cohesive, busy, and supportive department where the pupils truly matter.

About the Role

As a member of our well‑resourced and happy department, you will contribute to a wide range of activities essential to the smooth running of Maths teaching across the school. Responsibilities include:

  • Contributing to the ongoing review, development, and preparation of the Maths curriculum.
  • Assisting the Head of Department with procedures for public examination entries.
  • Supporting core academic routines that ensure high‑quality learning experiences for pupils.
  • Participating fully in departmental meetings, school examinations, and other departmental activities.
  • Taking a share of departmental commitments outside the school day, such as lectures and enrichment events.
  • Becoming involved in the wider extra‑curricular life of the School, according to your skills and interests.

Precise responsibilities will be agreed with the Head of Department, taking into account the strengths and interests of the successful candidate. Opportunities for ongoing training and professional development—both internally and externally—will be readily available and may occasionally require attendance beyond the usual working week.

Key Expectations

The successful candidate will:

  • Maintain a strong focus on safeguarding and pupil welfare at all times.
  • Set and mark regular written and oral work, in line with departmental and school policies.
  • Keep accurate, up‑to‑date records of pupil attainment and progress, taking action where needed and keeping the Head of Department fully informed.
  • Ensure marking reflects departmental standards and the School Marking Policy.
  • Attend school functions as required, including staff meetings, parents’ evenings, and duties.
  • Adhere to all school and departmental policies.
Why Join Us?

You will be joining a lively, friendly, and supportive department where high standards are expected of both staff and pupils. We pride ourselves on fostering a genuine enjoyment of Mathematics—promoting it as both highly relevant to the modern world and deeply enriching in its own right.

Staff room facilities are excellent, resources are strong, and the department benefits from an atmosphere of collaboration, good humour, and shared commitment to helping pupils thrive.

Deadline for applications is 10am on 14th April. Interviews are scheduled for Friday 24th April. Please make it clear on your application form whether you would like to be considered for a full-time, or part-time position.

St Catherine’s is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and expects all staff to share this commitment. Applicants must be willing to undergo child protection screening, including checks with past employers and an enhanced DBS and barred list check. The School is an equal opportunities employer.
