The role reports to the Head of the Junior Department (Byron House) and is supported by the Head of Maths (Senior House).
Person Specification
Overall, the successful applicant will wish to play a full part in the life of a highly energetic, caring and successful school and is likely to possess some or all of the following experience, qualifications and characteristics:
· Successful experience of teaching children of the appropriate age range.
· Qualified Teacher Status (desirable).
· A good honours degree in an appropriate discipline.
· ICT skills, both in relation to the curriculum itself and in educational administration of e.g. record keeping, assessment and monitoring.
· A commitment to the pastoral care of, safeguarding of and respect for children.
· An ability to communicate with and co-operate with colleagues.
· Evidence of teaching in a creative and engaging manner
· Successful experience of building warm, connected relationships with children
· An understanding of, or experience in, teaching children from backgrounds of trauma and Special Needs is an advantage.

All members of staff are required to:
· Undertake a significant pastoral role in addition to teaching duties and the successful candidate should wish to make a substantial contribution to the pastoral life of the School as a year group tutor of up to ten pupils.
· Attend staff meetings (after school or immediately prior to the start of term)
· Attend the annual Speech and Sports Day event.
· Attend parents' evenings arranged to discuss children's progress or to deal with more general educational issues.
· Attend external courses or Training Days arranged in School during holiday periods
· Set aside adequate time to prepare for a new term or tidy up after a term has ended.
· Provide cover for absent colleagues.
· Take a share of break and lunch duties.

Hours
This is a fixed term post for two terms from September 2025.
Remuneration
The Salary will be on the St John’s teaching salary scale, the top point of which is currently £49,481 per annum for a full-time role; the entry point on the scale will depend upon qualifications, competencies and experience.
A private health scheme may also be made available to the successful applicant.
