We are seeking an engaging and dynamic Teacher of Business Management and Economics to join an experienced and established department on a part-time, permanent basis (0.6 full-time equivalent). The successful candidate would have the opportunity to teach National 5 and Higher, potentially on a shared basis.
Ideally, members of the department teach both Business Management and Economics, although a candidate with only one area of specialism would still be considered. In addition to core subject teaching, departmental staff are encouraged to become involved in a wide range of extracurricular activities including Young Enterprise and Future Assets competitions.
Colleagues are encouraged to continue developing their subject knowledge and skills through a range of professional learning, as well as broadening their teaching experience through delivery across levels and subjects within the department.
Teachers at Edinburgh Academy are also encouraged to play an active part in the wider curriculum according to their interests and / or school need. This might be as part of the Games programme or the Activities that run on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons.
Department curriculum
The Department offers both Business Management and Economics from National 5 to Advanced Higher Grade. National 5 Business Management and National 5 Economics are offered to pupils in 4ths (S3) and 5ths (S4).
There is no dedicated Business or Economics teaching below this level, although there is active involvement with after school Enterprise activities and interdisciplinary learning projects in both 2nds (S1) and 3rds (S2).
Qualifications Scotland Higher Business Management and Higher Economics are available to pupils both as a progression from National 5 and as fresh start courses. At Advanced Higher, the Department currently offers both Business Management and Economics.
