A fantastic opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and well-qualified Teacher of Classics to join the school from 1 January 2026 on a permanent and full time or 0.8 FTE basis.
Subjects in the Classics department are highly popular and are taught with a strong focus on skills development and independent learning. Applicants must have the ability to teach throughout the school. In the Sixth Form, we offer Classical Civilisation, Ancient History, Greek and Latin A Levels, and also Greek and Latin in the IB Diploma Programme. Latin, Greek and Classical Civilisation are offered at GCSE.
This role will also have responsibility for the Ancient World Breakfast Club. The Godolphin and Latymer Ancient World Breakfast Club (AWBC) was established in 2005 as a weekly lecture series to promote the study of the ancient world among members of the wider community. Since that time, interest has grown considerably – membership is currently around 200 people – and the club has developed a fine reputation for attracting distinguished speakers on many and varied topics to do with the ancient world. https://www.godolphinandlatymer.com/partnerships/ancient-world-breakfast-club/
All staff are expected to contribute to the thriving extra-curricular programme on offer at the School. All members of the Classics department must be fully committed to the extra-curricular activities within the department, including being available for visits overseas to Greece and Italy for example.
The salary will be commensurate with the post and will depend upon qualifications and experience.
Accommodation may be available for new staff in a local six-unit property.
For further information about our school and this role, please visit www.godolphinandlatymer.com. Fully completed application forms must be returned to recruitment@godolphinandlatymer.com by noon on the closing date. Please note that applications must be made on the school’s application form. Neither CVs nor late applications will be accepted.
The closing date for this vacancy is noon on Monday 12 May 2025.
It is anticipated that interviews will take place towards the end of the week commencing Monday 12 May 2025.
The School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.
Applicants will be required to undergo child protection screening appropriate to the post, including checks with past employers and the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS). The School may carry out online searches on shortlisted applicants and all applicants will be required to provide details of their online profile, including social media accounts, as part of their application.
All staff working in the School during the school day will have contact with children and will therefore be in regulated activity. As a teaching member of staff you will be working directly with, and be responsible for, the children that you teach. You are also likely to have contact with other pupils on a regular basis which may include specific pastoral or other responsibilities for pupils whom you do not teach.
The post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974. The School is therefore permitted to ask job applicants to declare all convictions and cautions on a self-declaration form in advance of attending an interview (including those which are ‘spent’ unless they are ‘protected’ under the DBS filtering rules) in order to assess their suitability to work with children.
