We are looking for an enthusiastic and inspiring LAMDA teacher to join our team of visiting teachers and teach small group lessons, specializing in teaching KS1 to KS3 from September 2025.
The Portsmouth Grammar School is a leading co-educational school located in the historic heart of Portsmouth. We are very much a family school known for excellent teaching, superb pastoral care and wide-ranging co-curricular opportunities and offer an education across the age range from Pre-School to Sixth Form.
We are looking for an enthusiastic and inspiring LAMDA teacher to join our team of talented and dedicated visiting teachers and teach small group lessons, specializing in teaching KS1 to KS3, from September 2025.
There is initially a requirement for two days of teaching consisting of both Junior and Senior School classes. LAMDA is available to all pupils from Year 1 to 6 in the juniors and classes are scheduled during breaks and lunchtimes. Senior lessons for pupils in Years 7 and 8 take place on a rotating timetable during lesson time, and Year 9 classes take place during lunchtimes. All classes require careful scheduling, good communication with pupils, parents and occasionally with other members of staff, to avoid potential clashes and other school events. There may be some future potential for KS4 and KS5 1-2-1 teaching.
Genuine enthusiasm for enabling each individual pupil to achieve their potential (at all levels) is essential. It is vital that the teacher has an ability to create a strong piece of theatre in line with the LAMDA syllabus requirements and to enable all pupils to fulfil their maximum potential in a safe and nurturing environment. They must be experienced in group entries and the devised and acting syllabus. They must have core values to empower pupils to find their voice, build confidence and hone teamwork skills.
The LAMDA teacher will be solely responsible for running the private examination centre, which includes booking examination dates, ensuring the dates do not clash with other school events, submitting candidates correctly, and arranging to pay the fees direct to LAMDA. All invoicing should be dealt with directly with parents/guardians and the school will not be liable for any failure of a parent who does not settle their LAMDA fees.
Visiting teachers are self-employed and sign a consultancy agreement with the school.
There is an expectation that Visiting teachers at PGS attend INSET (Professional Development Day) training, for example, in Safeguarding, GDPR and Health and Safety and other essential training as scheduled at other times throughout the year.
