We are thrilled to be advertising for the role of School Counsellor (Part-Time), a key appointment in our Pastoral Team.

Essential Skills :

  • Qualified Counsellor or psychotherapist: recognised qualification in counselling or psychotherapy.
  • BACP/UKCP Registration: full membership or accreditation with the British Psychological Society, British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP), UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP), or an equivalent body.
  • Safeguarding: familiarity with safeguarding policies and practices in educational settings, with up-to-date safeguarding training.

Key Responsibilities:

  • To carry out one-to-one therapeutic work with children and adolescents, to support their personal, social, emotional and related educational needs
  • To abide by either the BACP or UKCP ethical framework of good practice in Counselling and Psychotherapy
  • To work as part of a Counselling team
  • To liaise with parents where necessary (respecting appropriate confidentiality) for the purposes of assessment, consultation and reviews.
  • To liaise with teaching and other pastoral staff where necessary
  • To co-ordinate where appropriate (in discussion with Head of Pastoral Care and Student Experience) with external parties such as CAMHS, GPs and psychiatrists to ensure the young person’s well-being and safety is protected
  • To keep and maintain appropriate records ensuring privacy and confidentiality is safeguarded at all times.
  • To adhere to the school’s Safeguarding Policy as well as all other policies at all times
  • To have Professional Indemnity Insurance
  • To have external clinical supervision, as appropriate

Thomas’s College has a dedicated Counselling Room and another part-time Counsellor, with whom this role will work closely. The school counsellors report to the Head of Pastoral Care and Student Experience.
