Winchester College - Campus Cleaner (Evening)

Summary

Winchester College has an exciting opportunity to appoint an Evening Cleaner to join our Facilities team in a part-time, 52-week role. The Facilities team is responsible for the daily cleanliness and event set-up of all school buildings, including administrative offices and sports facilities (excluding boarding houses). This role requires an organised individual with high attention to detail who can work effectively and largely unsupervised. While no prior experience is required as training is provided, experience in commercial cleaning and COSHH is considered advantageous.

Detail

The Role

Reporting to the Facilities Team Leaders and Facilities Manager, the Evening Cleaner ensures the campus remains clean, professional, and prepared for daily operations and school events.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Cleaning & Maintenance: Clean allocated internal areas (including showers, WCs, sweeping, mopping, dusting, and vacuuming) and maintain the cleanliness of external campus paths as required.
  • Event Support: Assist in setting up venues for music, exams, school functions, and open days. This includes moving and relocating items such as furniture, event kits, tables, and chairs.
  • Safety & Compliance: Participate in routine safety checks, including fire call points, extinguishers, emergency lighting, and water temperature monitoring. Report any defects or hazards immediately to the Facilities management team.
  • General Duties: Undertake minor running repairs, periodically clean internal windows (potentially using a step ladder), and remain up to date with modern cleaning methods and Health & Safety training.
  • Physical Tasks: Capably handle the physical requirements of the role, including lifting cleaning equipment, full bin bags, and furniture.

What We Offer

  • Start Date: Flexible start date; preference for commencement as soon as possible.
  • Contract: 52-week contract, paid monthly in 12 equal instalments.
  • Working Hours & Salary: We will consider candidates for either of the following patterns:

Option 1: 16 Hours per Week

  • Pattern: 17:30–21:30, working a rota of 4 days on and 4 days off.
  • Salary: £10,441.60 per annum.

Option 2: 15 Hours per Week

  • Pattern: 17:30–20:30, Monday to Friday (fixed 5-day pattern).
  • Salary: £9,789.00 per annum.
