Summary

Winchester College has an exciting opportunity to appoint a Part-Time Domestic working in the boarding houses, on a term-time or a 52-week basis, who can support in other departments outside of term-time when the boarding house is not in service.

Your key responsibilities include:

Cleaning and Maintenance

• Sanitisation & Tidiness: Clean all allocated areas, including dining rooms, bathrooms, dormitories, classrooms, and stairways, to a high standard.
• Core Tasks: Execute daily cleaning duties such as emptying bins, sweeping, mopping, dusting, polishing, and vacuuming.
• Window Care: Periodically clean the inside of windows, which may involve the safe use of stepladders.
• Safety Reporting: Immediately report any defects, safety hazards, or accidents to the Housekeeper/Matron to ensure a safe environment for staff and pupils.

Boarding House Support

• Linen Management: Change bedding as required and occasionally assist with the turning or changing of mattresses.
• Dining Support: Assist with meal times by setting tables, putting serving dishes on tables, and clearing away to the kitchen after meals.
• Operational Flexibility: Undertake any other reasonable tasks requested by the Housekeeper/Matron to support the smooth running of the house.

Safety and Standards

• Training: Keep up to date with modern cleaning methods and participate in regular Health & Safety training as required.
• Manual Handling: Safely lift and move items such as cleaning equipment and laundry bags in accordance with training.
• Compliance: Adhere to all school safety procedures and cleaning practices to maintain a compliant environment.

Essential Skills & Qualities

• Professional Experience: Experience in domestic services, housekeeping, or a similar environment is preferred.
• Technical Knowledge: An understanding of cleaning practices and safety procedures.
• Physical Capability: Capable of meeting the physical requirements of the role, including lifting reasonably heavy items and being on your feet for the duration of the shift.
• Attention to Detail: High standards of cleanliness with the ability to maintain these standards consistently.
• Work Ethic: Reliable, enthusiastic, and able to use initiative when working unsupervised.
• Teamwork: A positive and flexible approach, with the ability to contribute to a strong team spirit.
• Time Management: Ability to prioritise tasks and manage time productively to meet the needs of the house.

What We Offer

• Start Date: As soon as possible.
• Hours of Work: 30 hours per week, working 09:00–14:00, Monday to Saturday.
• Option 1: Term Time Only (plus hours reasonably necessary for the role).
• Option 2: 52-week contract. Outside of term time, you will support Summer Lets and other departments such as Facilities or Laundry.
• Salary:
• Term Time Only: £14,532.90 (gross) per annum.
• 52-week Contract: £19,578.00 (gross) per annum.
• (The Full-Time Equivalent salary is £26,104.00).
• Salary is paid monthly in 12 equal instalments.
