This is a zero-hours position, working exclusively during term-time.

The Role

You'll report to the Lead Nurse and operate under the professional supervision of the College Doctors. This dynamic role offers the opportunity to provide essential medical support within a historic educational setting.

Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Patient Care: Providing emergency and in-patient treatment and care to pupils, as well as emergency care to staff and visitors.
  • Health Assessments: Conducting entry examinations for all new pupils and performing continuous monitoring as appropriate.
  • Health Promotion: Assisting in the promotion of health education throughout the school.
  • Liaison & Communication: Collaborating closely with School Doctors and appropriate external medical professionals (e.g., local hospitals, healthcare facilities). Ensuring effective communication between the Medical Centre and the school, promptly advising relevant parties (parents, Housemasters, Matrons) of specific situations.
  • Medication Management: Dispensing medicines in accordance with current drug protocols, ensuring accurate control, security, and documentation of all drugs/medications.
  • Record Keeping: Assisting in the maintenance of proper medical records, ensuring consistency with the doctors' practice and maintaining confidentiality.
  • Immunisation Programmes: Administering vaccines in accordance with departmental protocols for the School Immunisation Programme, travel, and university entrance requirements.
  • Clinic Support: Supporting the Lead Nurse in the smooth running of daily GP clinics.
  • Professional Development: Attending relevant professional courses as required, staying up to date with best practice, and undertaking appropriate health and safety training.
  • Operational Support: Carrying out routine checks of treatment room stock and hygiene equipment, restocking departmental first aid kits, and undertaking additional duties as reasonably required for cover during staff absence, school events, or epidemics.

About You

We're seeking a RSCN Qualified Nurse who is reliable, empathetic, and capable of working both independently and as part of a dedicated team.

Essential Skills & Experience:

  • RSCN Qualification: Must be a Registered Sick Children's Nurse.
  • Compassionate Approach: Ability to recognise and respond to situations requiring a caring and compassionate approach.
  • Organisational & Teamwork: Good organisational skills and the ability to work alone as well as within a team.
  • Communication: Excellent communication skills.
  • Interpersonal Skills: Emotional intelligence and the ability to empathise with both staff and pupils.
  • Demeanour: A welcoming and friendly demeanour for all visitors to the College.
  • Relationship Building: Ability to build strong and effective relationships with pupils, parents, Housemasters/mistresses, and other school-wide colleagues.
  • Decision-Making: Calm, patient, and the ability to make decisions under pressure.
  • Flexibility: A flexible and adaptable approach to working hours.

Desirable Skills & Experience:

  • Work Ethic: A conscientious and dedicated approach.
  • IT Literacy: IT literate or a willingness to learn.
  • Experience: Experience of paediatrics, accident and emergency, or primary care would be an advantage (training will be provided).
  • Values: A commitment to the pastoral values of the school.
  • Qualities: High levels of energy, enthusiasm, and reliability.

What We Offer

  • Start Date: This appointment will commence on September 1, 2025.
  • Working Hours: This is a zero-hour position, working during term-time only. The Health & Wellbeing Manager is available to discuss potential hours/days.
  • Salary: The hourly rate is £18.11, plus holiday pay for each hour worked.
